Pregnant People More Vulnerable to Severe COVID-19 Outcomes
Findings from the CanCOVID-Preg project, led by UBC’s Dr. Deborah Money, showed that pregnant people were at higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalization than non-pregnant people. Study Shows Vancouver’s At-Risk Groups Need Vaccine Outreach
New research from Dr. Brittany Barker and Dr. Hudson Reddon at the BC Centre on Substance Use found lower COVID-19 vaccination rates among Vancouver’s at-risk groups. Public health efforts must continue to address vaccine confidence and barriers to accessing healthcare faced by at-risk groups. For more information, please visit med.ubc.ca.

Blood Tests Predict Patient COVID-19 Outcomes, Research Finds
Dr. Kelly McNagny and his UBC research team developed a new blood test that may help identify hospitalized patients at risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes. The team identifed dozens of blood biomarkers that may predict whether a COVID-19 patient will require prolonged treatment in the intensive care unit. For more information, please visit vancouversun.com.

CGEn HostSeq/CIHR Joint Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
This Postdoctoral Fellowship Program will support highly-qualified postdoctoral trainees whose research involves the role of the human genome in the manifestation of COVID-19 disease through bioinformatic analyses of data from the HostSeq Databank. The maximum per award is $70,000 for up to 1 year.
