COVID-19 Clinical Research Coordination Initiative Newsletter – February Update

The Interdisciplinary COVID-19 Clinical network (ICCN) Now Open to British Columbians

We are pleased to announce that three post-COVID recovery clinics have been launched to provide specialized care and follow-up for people suffering from long-term health effects while in recovery from the virus. These Post-COVID-19 Recovery Clinics provide access to care, services and education for people who have contracted COVID-19. The team provides care through a mix of on-site and telehealth-enabled clinics that allow for multidisciplinary engagement with patients, their family doctors, the nursing team, and a network of subspecialists. Patients will also be provided with opportunities to participate in research studies. This integration of research with clinical care will help build the knowledge needed to advance evidence-based healthcare that impacts not only COVID-19, but also the long-term effects of this pandemic. The network aspect of the clinics will allow them to learn from each other while developing knowledge and best practices to understand patients’ journeys in more detail, and provide an expert level of care. It is a first network of its kind in Canada, rooted in patient-centred care and innovation.

#ScienceUpFirst is a movement developed by a team of independent scientists, health care providers and science communicators to stop the spread of misinformation around COVID-19 on social media. This initiative emerged from conversations between Senator Stan Kutcher and Professor Timothy Caulfield, who reached out to their networks and assembled a growing team of experts in different fields. You can help by following @ScienceUpFirst on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and sharing their expert-vetted posts with your friends and followers.
